Red Hartebeest

Appearance

The Red Hartebeest is a large reddish antelope. Both sexes have heavily ringed horns.

Diet

Red Hartebeest is predominantly a grazing species which prefers grass and relishes fresh re-growth after veldt fires or rain.

Breeding

A single calve is normally born before summer rains after a gestation period of 8 months.

Hunting

When hunting Red Hartebeest  a .270, 7 X 57, 7 mm Rem Mag, 7 mm 08, .308, 30-06, .300 WSM, 300 Win Mag 8 X 64, 35 Whelan, 9.3 X 62 and any comparable calibers are good choices. Shot placement as always straight up the front leg, one third of the way up.
