Sandgrouse Shooting (Namaqua-, Double Banded- and Burchell Sandgrouse

NAMAQUA / BURCHELL SANDGROUSE SHOOTING

The Namaqua/Burchell Sandgrouse are very time specific and will return to the same waterhole every day except if it’s raining.

The best time shooting this grouse is in the mornings from 7 am – 11 am.

The grouse shooting buds are all built 100-150 meters from the waterholes. We shoot at different waterholes every day.

The population of the Namaqua/Burchell Sandgrouse will be counted throughout the season. In a normal season, there will be flocks of 400-2000 Namaqua sandgrouse coming to each waterhole and 50-300 Burchell Sand Grouse.

This is an elite shoot and very challenging. The Northern Cape regulations state a bag limit of 10 birds per hunter per day.

DOUBLE-BANDED SANDGROUSE

The Double Banded Sandgrouse are also very time specific and will return to the same waterhole every day except if it’s raining. The best time for shooting Double Banded Sandgrouse is at dusk time, just before it gets dark. All the hunters will be seated close the waterhole and the sandgrouse will fly very low towards the waterhole. Double Banded Sandgrouse are a very small population and there is a bag limit of 5 birds per day per hunter.
