Wintershoek Hunting Safari Accommodation

At the luxurious lodges of Wintershoek Safaris, hunters can relax in comfort after an exhilarating day.

The best dining experiences are standard at Wintershoek Safaris lodges and all four of our lodges are 4-star.  Here follows some more detail about each lodge:

Thuru

In the local Khoisan language, ‘thuru’ means to cast off skin, to change into another creature. This is what you will experience while hunting in the breathtakingly beautiful red Kalahari sand dunes of Thuru’s Nama Karoo. You will experience solace for your soul in the warm ambiance of the luxurious Thuru lodge.  Thuru lodge specialty lies with the African bush dinner experience between the red Kalahari sand dunes.

Karreekloof

Nestled in the Northern Cape Karoo grasslands of South Africa, Karreekloof is a very large, open area ideal for hunting in expansive territories. This vast 112 000 acre space is a newly developed paradise created by the owners of Wintershoek Safaris to ensure a magnificent, responsible hunting experience for all.

The brand new Karreekloof lodge is a superb development that fits right into this historic part of the country that dates back to 1881 when the first trading post was opened here by the pioneering hand of John William Wright.

Linksfontein

Winterhoek’s hunting enclave at Linksfontein in the Northern Cape forms part of the unique Ghaap plateau escarpment, known as an area of special interest to researchers of human evolution. This mineral-rich rocky limestone area produces some excellent hunting trophies.

The team at Linksfontein has created no less than 18 blinds that blend perfectly into the natural environment. Archery enthusiasts will be in their element bowhunting a wide variety of indigenous species with superb support from our knowledgeable bowhunting professional hunters at this special place.  Linksfontein prides itself on great hospitality and heartwarming food.

Gamagara

Gamagara is situated in the middle of the Green Kalahari, near the small town of Dibeng. Here your hunting experience is guaranteed to start with a sunrise that will lift your soul above the pull of earth’s gravity, while the most majestic African sunset will ease you into a restful sleep at our luxurious lodge, after a most magnificent hunting day.

Our four lodges have been catering for international hunters for many years and take pride in their professional, yet warm service.  They love what they do and you can feel it!  Facilities at all four lodges are excellent and includes but are not limited to air-conditioning, Wifi, tea and coffee facilities and much more.   Each lodge also provides bush dinners and sundowners, depending on your needs.  We look forward to welcoming you at Wintershoek.

Hunting with Jack Perrett and his family at Linksfontein

Jack has hunted with Wintershoek Safaris for the last four years and decided to hunt at Linksfontein and Karreekloof this year.

On the hunt, Jack Perrett, his wife Kristen and daughter, Channing were joined by Kristen’s parents, Roy and Delinda, as well as Kristen’s brother, Robert, his wife Kim and Kim’s son, Chip.  As always, their South African friend, Ashley joined.

On arrival, spirits were high and although tired, the adrenalin and excitement was flying high.  Three experienced PH’s accompanied the group – John Tinley, Johan Maritz and Phillip from Linksfontein.   Determination soon paid off with the Common Springbuck, Blesbuck, Impala, Roan and Blue Wildebeest in the salt! Jack took a beautiful Sable Trophy with his bow.

During the hunt, Linksfontein celebrated Delinda’s birthday with a visit to the local wine cellar and a surprise sun-downer.  Back at camp, a nice birthday barbecue awaited them.  To end the evening, Delinda was surprised yet again with candles, cake, and singing.

Whilst the men hunted, the ladies relaxed, did game drives, visited the Big Diamond Hole and went gift shopping.  Channing didn’t stand back for the men and got a nice White Springbuck.   Jack returned later for another two days of bowhunting, wherein he managed to take down a Red Lechwe, Warthog and Blue Wildebeest!

The hunt at Linksfontein wasn’t just a hunt – Friends turned into Family.  Thank you, Jack and Family. Until next time!!
